What is Rock Band Network?

Rock Band Network is a system allowing bands, studios, and record labels, to create and sell downloadable Rock Band songs given their existing catalog. Developed by Harmonix, RBN has provided specs on how third parties can use the same professional tools used by Harmonix developers to convert tracks into playable game content.

 

How much will songs be sold for?

Songs can be sold for $1, $2, and $3.

 

How much is Harmonix's take?

Harmonix retains 70% of the revenue. You get 30%.

 

Where can people buy the songs?

Songs are available exclusively through XBox Live Marketplace and the Rock Band Network Store, where users will be able to trade in their Microsoft Points ($1 = 80 MSP, $2 = 160 MSP, $3 = 240 MSP) for the downloads. Select songs will be available to PS3 users as well.

Harmonix plans to extend the system to other consoles. later in 2010.

 

How do we get paid?

Two options:

  • From Microsoft, you enroll in the Creator's Club for a fee of $100 and set up payment information directly with Microsoft. You get paid quarterly, with a minimum payment of $50. Details for getting paid from Sony are TBD; or
  • Explosive Kitty can manage the disbursement of funds for a small fee per payment request.

  • You must own your own songs
  • Songs have to be edited to be radio friendly (no bad words).
